Trail along the Vézère to the cliffs of La Roque St Christophe. Return via Le Moustier and the woods of the Côte de Jor.

If you’re looking for an accessible and picturesque loop trail to get your day off to a good start, this 6 km loop with a 77 m ascent is ideal. It combines a walk along the Vézère river , spectacular views of thecliffs at Roque Saint-Christophe and immersion in the wild woodland, under the côte de Jor. This route, with no busy roads, is also an opportunity to spot a beach oppositeone of Europe’s main troglodyte sites for a familyswim.

Start by taking the main driveway at Le Paradis campsite. Turn right towards thelanding stage on the river. From the moment you set off, you ‘ ll be immersed in a peaceful atmosphere. The shady flatpath, bordered by open fields offers an unobstructed view over the Vézère valley. For two kilometres, the water of the Vézère accompanies your strides.

This stretch is an invitation to contemplate and is full of surprises: sometimes ducks glide on the water, sometimes sunbeams pierce the canopy to illuminate the path. A real gentle warm-up, perfect for beginners and naturelovers alike.


Panoramic break: views of the cliffs and local heritage

After a few strides, a discreet beach opens up before you. It reveals a magnificent view of the imposing cliffs of the Roque Saint-Christophe. Reaching a height of 80 metres, this emblematic troglodyte site is one of the largest in Europe. Take a break if you like : the morning light here is magical.

Then take the path that leads under the charming charming stone bridge at Le Moustier. The atmosphere gradually changes as you approach the hamlet. The sound of your footsteps mingles with that of the first inhabitants getting down to business. When you reach the small church square, you ‘ ll find yourself opposite the bakery , with its of warm bread and pastries.

Cross the road with care to reach the little street that runs discreetly up to the left of the bakery. On your left, a discreet prehistoricsite is a reminder of the thousand-year-old history of this area. Follow the small road for around twenty metres before forking right for a new stage.

You leave the streets of the village of Le Moustier to join a peaceful typical Périgord Noir houses. Tobaccodrying sheds, Perigordian roofs and golden walls contrast with the Vézère Vézèrevalley as you climb. The path becomes sunnier and the gradual ascent challenges your legs while rewarding reward your efforts with landscapes that open out onto wide open spaces.

The slope, although moderate, adds a sporting dimension to the route. Experienced runners will find it a pleasant challenge , while beginners beginners can slow down to appreciate the scenery. After two kilometres, you’ll reach the edge of a shady wood. This is the final stage of your loop.

Relaxing descent through the woods to the campsite

Entering the Vézère woods marks a change in atmosphere. The soft, leaf-covered ground cushions your footsteps. Depending on the season, you may discover fallen chestnuts, the scent of acacia flowers or the comforting smell of oak wood.

The path winds gently through the trees for a smooth, pleasant descent. This section is ideal for activemeditation: breathe in the fresh air, let your senses soak up the sounds of nature and feel the well-being of this unspoiltenvironment. You’ll pass through a veritable jewel box of greenery, a reservoir of calm and revitalisation.

Coming out of the woods, the white gates of Le Paradis campsite appear as a familiar and welcoming landmark. After this trail, there are several rewards to prolong this moment of well-being.


Detox and wellness break at the campsite spa

Start with a session in the sauna of the campsite sauna. The dry heat is ideal for relaxing your muscles after exercise and eliminating the toxins accumulated during your run. Take a deep breath, let the heat penetrate your muscles and release the tension.
Then immerse yourself in the steam room. The warm steam moisturises your skin and promotes a gentle recovery. Take advantage of this moment to gently stretch your legs or simply relax, lulled by the silence and the benefits of the essential oils diffused.
Finish off with a moment of relaxation in our jacuzzi. Let the massaging jets target your calves, thighs and back. The warm water stimulates blood circulation and helps reduce aches and pains. A real reward for your efforts!
